The Foundation for Global Sports Development delivers and supports initiatives that promote fair play, education, and the benefits of abuse-free sport for youth. Their latest initiative, Courage First, is dedicated to preventing abuse by providing greater education and awareness of the issue.

What is Courage First?

Courage First is a sexual-abuse prevention program that educates adults & teens on sexual abuse and predatory behavior in youth sports.

Collaborating with survivors and leading national child abuse prevention partners, Courage First provides online learning tools like podcasts, blogs and videos to educate around the less-obvious signs of sexual abuse.

Courage First has partnered with Darkness to Light to provide online certification through the Stewards of Children® program, which teaches adults how to protect children through prevention training; how to see to a child’s physical, emotional, and mental wellness needs in cases where abuse has occurred; and how to ensure that all proper protocols and procedures are followed in order to swiftly and fully address the issue.

AT THE HEART OF GOLD: INSIDE THE USA GYMNASTICS SCANDAL

Film Tour

The Courage First team and survivor advocates are taking AT THE HEART OF GOLD: INSIDE THE USA GYMNASTICS SCANDAL on a national film tour to inspire audiences to take action in their communities.

The documentary—from Sidewinder Films and director Erin Lee Carr—exposes the systemic failings at USA Gymnastics that allowed an abuser like Larry Nassar to operate with impunity for so long. It is also a testament to the courage of the young women who spoke out and brought him to justice, as well as a rallying cry for reform. The critically-acclaimed film premiered in April at the Tribeca Film Festival before airing on HBO in May.

The film tour takes place July-Dec 2019, and will feature strategic discussion guides, round-tables, and surveys to help viewers prevent child abuse.
